Kary Kilmer
“My approach to metal working and jewelry design is Shamanistic. I believe that metals and gemstones have a particular vibration that resonates with the matrix of The Earth. I find the most inspiration by visiting sacred places. At these sites I will gather local rocks, gemstones or draw design inspiration, downloaded from the surrounding energy fields. These include ancient temples, Buddhist Stupas and monuments that are known destinations. Other places are the vortexes and portals and secret places that I have discovered on my many hikes and explorations in the magical San Louis valley and areas around Crestone Colorado.”
Kary Kilmer began his goldsmithing career as a young child forging copper welding rods on the horse shoeing anvil at his grandfather’s ranch. Kary garnered a majority of his skills working for a variety of jewelry designers and has studied metal smithing techniques in Ireland.
Kary Kilmer was chosen as one of four American finalists in the World Gold Council’s Virtuosi Competition in Vincenza, Italy, dubbed the world’s “Oscars” of gold jewelry design.!
Currently, Kary is working on a collection of pieces inspired by the natural landscapes and phenomena of the Crestone area. Kary specializes in custom jewelry design in silver and gold and teaches a series of one-day silversmithing classes.
